Stitch perfect
1. How does this assignment relate to the standard? Rewrite the standard in your own words
Standards
8.G.1: Verify experimentally the properties of rotations, reflections, and translations:
a. Lines are taken to lines, and line segments to line segments of the same length.
b. Angles are taken to angles of the same measure.
c. Parallel lines are taken to parallel lines.
8. G.2: Understand that a two-dimensional figure is congruent to another if the second can be obtained from the first by a sequence of rotations, reflections, and translations; given two congruent figures, describe a sequence that exhibits the congruence between them.
8.G.3: Describe the effect of dilations, translations, rotations, and reflections on two-dimensional figures using coordinates.
8.G.4: Understand that a two-dimensional figure is similar to another if the second can be obtained from the first by a sequence of rotations, reflections, translations, and dilations; given two similar two-dimensional figures, describe a sequence that exhibits the similarity between them.
2. What are the steps you took to complete and do well on this assignment?
In order to do well on the Stitch Perfect project, I had to take my time to first answer the questions . I asked my friends and emailed teacher during break for help on questions I didn’t know. I took my time to thoroughly answer the questions and do all the things that the question was telling me to do. As I was drawing out my work for the individual questions and graphing, I made sure I drew the points and the lines correctly. When I was drawing my final graph, I made sure that I had plotted all the things the instructions said to. When I was answering the short responses, I made sure I explained in detail and showed how I got to a certain point.
3. This assignment demonstrates the following strengths..
.
The Stitch Perfect Project demonstrates the strength of being able to use and apply the skill of dilation, reflection, translation, and rotation on figures. It also shows the skill of plot and graph coordinates to create a larger picture. The project also demonstrates the strength of being able to organize and show the steps to getting to the next step on a problem. The Stitch Perfect project also shows our skill of applying vocabulary words to short responses.
4. I could have improved my work on this assignment by..
I could have improved my work on this assignment by starting earlier and not procrastinating. Because I started late on this project, I had to rush and could not take my time to double check and make sure that all the material expected was put on the poster board. I could have also taken more time and made my poster neater with less corners of my paper starting to fall off. I could have also put in more effort to decorate and make my board more creative so that it would look more appealing.
5. How will you apply the skill you learned from this assignment in either the real world, when you are an adult, or in their classes while you are still a student?
I will use the skill of being able to identify and plot coordinates using dilation, reflection, translation, and rotation on figures in future classes and the rest of 8th grade algebra. I will also use the skill of plotting and graphing coordinates in high school to take AP classes. To me, I think that math needs to be learned in a certain order for the next topic to be easier to understand and that most topics mix with others so I will use the skill of creating plots when I learn a harder, more complicated topic.
