pinata
What is the standard?
Culture 2.2 and you have to assimilate cultural aspects in new cultures.
2. How does the assignment relate to the standard?
This standard relates to the standard because the pinata is a custom that is now used for celebrations, not only in the Mexican culture, but all over the world. The pinata is a symbol of assimilation to different cultures all over the world. In Spanish class, we were able to learn how to make a pinata and also learn how and where it originated. We were able to learn that the pinata was once something only used by missionaries to something that is used for celebrations. We learned how the pinata is now a custom fro people of all ethnicity. The main reason for the change in meaning is because over time people have changed and so has the culture. While making the pinata, we learned how hard it was and how much time it took. We were also able to observe the typical designs and the way the paper was cut and set on the pinata.
3. What does this assignment show about your strengths?
The assignment demonstrates the strength of creativity. We had to think of a design and make it from the basics. We started with a balloon and covered with construction paper and made paper mache. The next day, we covered the balloon with tissue paper and made the design of our choice. We had to decide on a design we could make with the colors of the provided tissue paper. Making the balloon had a lot of steps we had to take in order to make it so it also shows how patient we can be. It was a process of a couple of days and we had to focus and try our best on all of them.
4. How can you improved?
I could have improved my work by trying harder to think of a more complicated design. My design was very simple and not very complicated. If we had thought a little harder, we could have made something even more grand and better looking. We could have also taken our time. Because this project took a couple of days, on our last day, we got lazy and sloppily tried to finish it.
5. How can you use this in the real world?
I will use the pinata when there is a celebration in my family. Because I now know how to make one, my family wont have to spend money purchasing it. My family is not very exposed to different cultures but with the pinata, I will be able to share my knowledge and skill of how to make on a home. I can also share the deep history behind the pinata and tell my family about the culture of it.
