M&M Project
STANDARD 7.SP.5 - Spring Break Statistics and Probability Project
Students understand that the probability of a chance event is a number between 0 and 1 that expresses the likelihood of the event occurring. Larger numbers indicate greater likelihood. A probability near 0 indicates an unlikely event, a probability around 1/2 indicates an event that is neither unlikely nor likely, and a probability near 1 indicates a likely event.

1. Rewrite the standard in your own words. How does this assignment relate to the standard?
Understand the chance of a probability of an event between 0 and 1 that shows the likelyhood of an event. The larger the number, the greater the possibilty of something to occur. A probabiltiy of 0 means that the event is unlikely and a probabilty of around 1/2 means it is neither unlikely or likely. A probabilty of 1 means that it is likely.
This assignment relates to the standard because we had to understand the meaning of probability to complete the project. We had to understand that the lower the probability, the less likely it was going to be for that color to come out. We also had to know that the more common colors would have a higher percentage/ probability.
2. What are the steps you took to complete and do well on this assignment?
In order to do well on this assignment, I took my time. I also started early on this project. I planned out what I was going to do before hand on a small seperate sheet of paper. I wanted to make my poster special and unique, so I tried to make it as creative as possible. I answered all the questions before hand and made sure I found the correct probabilty for each different color. I found the mad for it and made a chart that represented the probability. After I solved everything and planned out how I would make my poster,I started to take my time to make it on my actual poster board. I made sure that all of my work was on the poster board and that it was made all nice and colorfull.
3. This assignment demonstrates the following strengths…
This assignment demonstrates the strenght of being able to find the probability of the different colors of the M&Ms. It also demonstrates if we are able to make our poster creative and colorful. I tried my best to make it look colorful and represnt our experiment, the M&M. It shows if we can finish a given task with different steps and represent everything on a poster board so that it would look nice but still have all the mathmatical information.
4. I could have improved my work on this assignment by..
I could improved on my poster by taking more time to decorate my poster. I pushed off coloring the poster untill the last minute which made my coloring a ;ittle bit messy. I could have also made my poster more organized by making the space to put my work a little bigger so that I would not have to squish everything together. I should have also put my work, such as my calcutlations on the poster as well to show proof.
5.How will you apply the skills you learned from this assignment in either the real world when you are an adult or in other classes while you are still a student?
I will aply the skill of probabilty if I decide to tutor students when I grow up. I can also use it when I have to make a decision. I can use probabilty to see which one has a higher chance of happening and take that chance. I can use the skill of creativity in everyday life. We use them to decorate work like projects in different classes and other school years to come.I can also use the knowledge to do well on the final that we are taking.
