1. How does this assignment relate to the standard?
The assignment of drawing anime relates to the standard 6-VA-CE-2.4 because the standard talks about our original artwork reflecting who we are and our skills. We were assigned to create an anime drawing that represents ourselves. We also had to use techniques like shading and exaggeration to create and receive a good grade on the project. All of the technical skills we learned were expected to be shown in our drawings. It also relates because the standard is about exaggerations in proportion and 3 dimensional figure. As we were learning the anime unit, we learned that most of the anime characters are overly exaggerated and that exaggeration is a characteristic of most/all anime figures. We had to apply the knowledge of exaggeration of the characters' eyes, face shape, legs, hair, etc. In order to receive a good grade, we had to draw an anime character that had most of the main characteristics with exaggerations.
2. What are the steps you took to complete and do well on this assignment?
In order to do well on the anime project, I tried to be wise of my time and started early in class so that if I had any questions, I would be able to ask. I also took time at home to get finished with my project. Before I started to draw, I planned out what my anime character would look like and how it would represent me. After, I knew that I needed exaggerated characteristics so I sketched out how my anime character would look. I also made sure that i added a background and shadow to my drawing.
3. This assignment demonstrates the following strengths...
The anime drawing demonstrates the strength of drawing anime characters with the technical skills we learned in class such as exaggeration, shading, using different colors to show light variations and create 3 dimensional imagery. It demonstrates the strength of knowing how to use different concepts, like drawing, to show or represent ourselves and how we view ourselves. It also demonstrates the skill of being creative with your work.
4. I could have improved my work on this assignment by...
I could have improved my work on this assignment by taking more time to perfect and improve on my work. I could have also taken more consideration of the background and had added more shades of color and shadow to make my artwork more idealistic. I could have also added and put more thought into the way I created the hair of the character. In class, I could have also given more thought and effort when I was writing the explaining portion the the anime project.
5. How will you apply the skill you learned from this assignment in either the real world, when you are an adult, or in their classes while you are still a student?
I will apply the skill of creativity in life as I am assigned projects where I have to make them look nice. I will use the skill of exaggeration when I have to draw pictures where there are exaggerated parts of the piece. I will use the skill of drawing anime in future classes as I take art for an elective. I can use the skill of shading and using different shades of colors to show light throughout the year in art calss and in future art classes.
