manifest destiny
1. How does this assignment relate to the standard? Rewrite the standard in your own words.
8.8.2 - Describe the purpose, challenges, and economic incentives associated with westward expansion, including the concept of Manifest Destiny (e.g. the Lewis and Clark expedition, accounts of the removal of Indians, the Cherokees' "Trail of Tears," settlement of the Great Plains) and the territorial acquisitions that spammed numerous decades.
The assignment relates to the standard because we learned about the different settlement groups that came to the west. We specifically learned about the great roll played by Lewis and Clark in the expansion to the west. We learned about the different territories the United States gained from exploration and war from other countries. We learned about the peace treaties and the attacks the U.S went through to create our strong nation.
2. What are the steps you took to complete and do well on this assignment?
In order to do well on this assignment, I had to pay attention in class. We did most of the assignment in class as a group and as a whole. I also chose colors that are very different from each other so that the territories can be easily shown. I also wrote down clear notes so I would be able to study well. For the poster I had to work well with my team mates and give our different parts of our section for each person to do. We pasted our pictures and wrote captions to go with it.
3. This assignment demonstrates the following strengths...
The assignment demonstrates the strength of being attentive and being able to quickly follow instructions. It also shows effort. We could have not payed attention in class but I chose to do my best and listen in class. As we were making the poster, we had to use our creativity to use visuals and make our poster look nice. It also demonstrates the strength of being able to summarize facts and present it into to our class.
4. I could have improved my work on this assignment by...
I could have improved my work on this assignment by adding more information as the teacher was speaking. That way, I would have more information to study as the tests were coming. I could have also colored and drew more so that our poster would have been more appealing. I could have wrote captions for the poster using greater vocabulary.
5. How will you apply the skill you learned from this assignment in either the real world, when you are an adult, or in their classes while you are still a student?
I will use the skill of being creative in different classes as we do assignments. I will use the knowledge of the great expansion west in future history classes and to study as we take tests. I will also use the knowledge of the expansion of the west of Lewis and Clark when I go to Washington D.C to the museums and learn about their exploration even more.
