CA STANDARD: LS2d & RST 6-8.4
ASSIGNMENT: EGG BABY
1. How does this assingment relate to the standard?
LS2d: Students know plant & animal cells have more than thousands of different genes and that there are usually 2 alleles of every gene. The alleles may or may not be identical, and one be dominant which is the phenotype that shows while the other is recessive.
RST6-8.4: Identify the meaning of symbols, key terms, and other domain-specific words and phrases as they are used in a specific or technical context that are appropriate to grades and topics.
This assignment relates to the standard because the egg baby had to be decorated according to the punnet square. We had to figure out the genotypes of our egg baby and with that we had to determine its phenotype. All of this is connected to genetics and heredity.

2. What are the steps you took to complete and do well on this assignment?
To do this assignment well I took my time to m,ake sure that the punnet squares were all correct. I also made sure that I had all 5 phenotypes were on my egg. I double checked to make sure I had all the correct genotypes from my partner. I wanted to make my egg baby look cute and nice so I took my time decorating. I made sure that there were no cracks on my egg baby. I started over several times to make sure that my egg baby looked nice and had all the requirements.

This assignment demonstrates the strenght of creativity. We had to decorate our egg baby with the specific phenotypes but there was no specific material that we had to use. We were given an unlimited amount of materials that we could use. It was up to us on how we would make the egg baby look. The assignment also demonstrates the knowledge to understand the punnet squares and the diffrence between a genotype and phenotype, by collecting data.
4. I could have improved my work on this assignment by..
I could have improved on my work by putting in more effort into my egg baby. I should have taken more time and colored my sketch of the offspring's phenotype. I should have made more effort into decorating my egg baby. I should have used more of a variety of materials to make my egg baby instead of using simple objects that are very common.
5. How will you apply the skill you learned from this assignment in either the real world, when you are an adult, or in other classes while you are still a student?
I will use the skill of creativity in my daily life. and in many classes, not only for art, but for class projects I will remember the genetics unit and do well on the finals and other grade levels to come. I will also use this skill when I grow up and I want to know what my kid might turn out to be.
