Geography Of The Arabian Peninsula
The Arabian Peninsula is located in the Soutwest corner of Asia.. It is bordered by the Persian Gulf, the Arabian Sea, the Red Sea, and the Meditarian Sea.. The geography of the peninsula is mostly deserts. There are many sand dunes that stretch for thousands of miles. Because the Arabian Peninsula is a desert, there are not many sources of water but there are oases, where people can find water. Arabia has few lakes or permanent rivers. Most areas are drained by watercourses that dont last for a long time, which are dry except during the rainy season. The climate is mostly extremely hot and dry. Temperate can change by their altitude. The Arabian Sea coastline is mostly cool with humid breezes in summer due to cold upwelling offshore.
Nomadic And Sedentary Ways Of Life
People in the Arabian Peninsula were mostly nomads. Nomads were people who constantly move from place to place without settling, also called the nomadic way of life. Others settled down and formed villages and towns, This was the sedentary way of life. People in the desert had formed two ways of life. The Nomads lived in tents, and used camels for transportation. Nomads were mostly herders. They herded sheep, goats, and camels. The Nomads moved with the seasons and formed clans. The clans were groups of people, bound together by blood or marriage. It was a way of protection for the nomads. The largest clan was the Bedouins.
Unlike the Nomads, the sedentary people settled down in places mostly like the oasis. The oasis is a desert with water, that usually led to trade routes. The sedentary people formed small villages and towns, then eventually became centers of trade.
