Advocate in the present
To me my mom is an advocate. My mom helps out the people in need and does a lot of donations. Every month, my mom donates money to hospitals to help the people who need it. Once, my mom had a hard time to pay off her bills but she still donated to the hospital. At that time, I felt really touched. “Mom, why are you donating when you have to work hard to make money? Don’t you want to buy things for yourself?” I didn’t understand why she would work so hard and just give away money, especially when she could use it for herself. It seemed useless to me at first. Her small effort wouldn’t change the entire world. “It’s good to help the people in need. Even though it’s not that much, you should try to help.” She replied, “There are people who need help and need the support from people who have.” After I heard what she said, I got a feeling I wanted to donate as well. I saw how hard my mom worked each day and how tired she was but she still continuously gives to the people in need.
The week after, my mom went with her church to feed the homeless. She stayed up until 2 in the morning with people from her church to make different types of food. “Mom, why would you stay up so late to make food? Can’t you just make simple things like sandwiches?” I asked. To me, it seemed like just hard work. She could have just made something simple but she chose to make food that took a long time, even a large portion of it. “Would you want to eat food that someone made with no effort and just tried to get it over with?” she replied. Starting then, I realized that she was doing all she could and that she was an advocate. I think my mom is an advocate in the present because even though it’s not much, she’s still doing the best she can to give and help the people who need it. Even though she could save her money and use it for herself, she decides to share it with the people. She doing all she can to make change and help people.
