Cabbage indicator
Standard: 5e. I know how to determine whether a solution is acidic, basic, or neutral.
1. How does this assignment relate to the standard? Rewrite the standard in your own words.
I know whether a solution is an acid, a base, or a neutral.
This standard relates to the assignment because we had to work with our partners and drop a tiny amount of solution on the cabbage indicator paper which then told me if it was an acid, base, or neutral. We also had to record our evidence.
2. What are the steps you took to complete and do well on this assignment?
In order to do well on the cabbage indicator lab, i had to work well with my partner. I also had to be careful not to lose any of my indicator paper. I made sure that i wrote all the evidence down and recorded things accurately I took my time to do this assignment and talked it over with my partner as we were doing the lab to make sure almost no mistakes were made..
3. This assignment demonstrates the following strengths...
The project demonstrates the strengths of being able to work well with a partner. It also demonstrates the strength of being organized. This lab took place over a 2 day period and we could not loose anything or get the indicator paper mixed up with other solutions. The assignment demonstrates the strength of being able to write down and label what outcome came out of your experiment and explaining if your hypothesis was correct or not.
4. I could have improved my work on this assignment by...
I could have improved my work on this project by taking more time to look at my evidence when i wrote my conclusion. I could have also been a little neater and made sure that the cabbage indicators were not getting mixed into ones with other solutions. I could have taken more time to work with my partner so that when I wrote my conclusion, I could have been more precise.
5. How will you apply the skill you learned from this assignment in either the real world, when you are an adult, or in their classes while you are still a student?
I can use the knowledge of whether a substance is an acid, base, or neutral when I go further into science in high school classes. I can also use it to know how acid or basic something is when we do a lab using chemical. I can use it when I grow up and want to become a chemist. It will also help me recognize and use vocabulary words that are being used as we do lab reports in future classes and the rest of 8th grade. Learning vocabulary words will improve my fluency and i will be able to describe my data and findings in a more sophisticated way.
