Analyze and describe the main causes, events, and consequences of the Civil War
The standard relates to the assignment because with the DBQ essay, we had to use the eight documents we were provided with and use them to prove our statement on why the south seceded on how it started the Civil War. There were lists of reasons why the Civil War started, in the United States. We had to analyze the events and causes then use them to provide evidence to support my claim in my essay. I used examples such as the cotton plantations, the Protective Tariff, and the Emancipation Proclamation to prove my claim of how and why the Civil War started.
2. What are the steps you took to complete and do well on this assignment?
In order to complete this assignment, I payed attention in class while we analyzed the documents together with the teacher. Then, I took my time and chose with precision which three documents I would want to write about and use as my evidence to support my claim. After I chose the documents, I started to look for more details within the textbooks that could help me describe and explain each document. I then started to fill out my graphic organizer to complete my introduction and my conclusion paragraphs. I then started to write my add transitional sentences and complete my rough draft. When we peer edited in class, I chose people who were good at writing to use as examples and help improve my essay. Lastly, as we wrote the final draft in class, I took time to review my peers and teachers revisions to complete my final draft.

The assignment demonstrates the skill of analyzing documents and using them to prove my claim for a certain topic. The assignment also demonstrates the strength of organization. We had to be thoroughly descriptive and also be able to organize our thoughts onto the paper. The DBQ essay demonstrates the strength of being able to stay on task and turn in work on time. For the entire week, we were completing the DBQ step by step. In order to complete the performance task by Friday, we had to stay on task and make sure to complete it for homework if it was not done in class.

I could have improved my work on this assignment, I could have taken more time to look through the textbook and look for more information on the topics I chose to write about. I could have also improved my work by using my time more wisely so that I wouldn't have to rush on the last day of class to complete my final draft. I could have also improved my work by including more vocabulary words to make my essay more professional and descriptive. Lastly, I could have improved my work by peer editing more of my classmates' works to help improve mine and get an example of other people's works.
5. How will you apply the skills you learned from this assignment in either the real world when you are an adult or in other classes while you are still a student?
I will apply the skill of being able analyze documents in classes when we have reports to do. I will also use it when I have to research a certain topic. I will also use it if I become a prosecutor because I will have to analyze a lot of different documents to find out who the real culprit to the case is. I will use the skill of organization in writing essays for future reports as well. I will use the skill of staying on task and completing work on time for all my classes until I finish skill. I will also use the skill of completing things on time in the real world because in life, people are going to expect that we get things done on time and we complete things on the promised date.
